Columbus County Farmers Market Opens on Saturday, May 12, at 8 a.m.
Seventh Annual Fun Run & Walk Will Be Held on Saturday, May 19
Columbus County Community Farmers Market will officially open for the 2018 season on Saturday, May 12, at 8 a.m.
“We have had some beautiful, spring weather so far this year and there should be a good variety of locally grown, farm fresh produce on opening day,” said Susie Rockel, market manager. “Our new hours for the 2018 season will be Saturdays from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.” she added.
Highlights of the 10 a.m. Opening Day ceremony will include remarks by elected officials, and a flag raising ceremony by a local Boy Scouts troop.
In addition, the market anticipates lots of locally grown, farm fresh vegetables including green peas, squash, onions, cucumbers, radish, spinach, lettuce, Swiss chard, new potatoes, plants, arts & crafts, baked goods, eggs, jams, jellies, and more!
The ninth annual Farmers Market Fun Run & Walk will be held on Saturday, May 19. “This year’s event will be one of our largest ever since we have partnered with YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina to include student boys & girls groups as well as adults,” said event coordinator Rachel Smith. “We expect more than 400 participants this year,” she added.
The kid’s fun run will begin at 8:45 a.m. and the adult 5k fun run/walk starts at 9 a.m. Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers at the end of the event. Participation in the kid’s fun run is free; the 5k fun run/walk is $10 per person with advance online registration or $15 on the day of the event.
