Southern Smoke featured at Southern Shindig: Healing Young Hearts
Lower Cape Fear Hospice to Host Southern Shindig Fundraiser at Columbus County Fairgrounds
Award winning barbecue chef Matthew Register of Southern Smoke in Garland, North Carolina will be serving up a feast not to be missed at Lower Cape Fear Hospice’s Southern Shindig: Healing Young Hearts. The event will be Saturday, June 10, from 7-10 pm at the Columbus County Fairgrounds, 886 Prison Camp Road in Whiteville.
Register, known for his passion and creativity in creating southern culinary delights, has been featured cooking with Al Roker on NBC’s Today Show. His restaurant is a favorite local eatery in Garland known for southeastern North Carolina style barbecue. It also produces two barbecue sauces that are commercially sold in gourmet food shops from Chapel Hill to Charleston. The restaurant’s South Supper Series are sold out events.
A Southern Shindig wouldn’t be complete without some spirited beverages, live music and an exciting auction. “We’re excited because this is the first event of this kind we have hosted in Columbus County,” Laurie Taylor, vice president of fund development, said. “We wanted to offer people a relaxed, traditional, southern kind of evening with great food, good music and an opportunity to connect with neighbors all while supporting a very worthwhile cause.”
Proceeds from a Southern Shindig support LCFH’s Sunrise Kids Program that helps heal the hearts of children, teens and youth coping with the loss of a loved one. “Children often grieve differently than adults,” Taylor said. “We offer no cost grief support programs specifically geared towards meeting their needs. Sunrise Kids provides in-school programs, individual and group counseling camps and educational outreach to help them through the challenge of dealing with grief. “
Tickets for a Southern Shindig are $50 each or $80 per couple. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit lcfhfoundation.org/events or call 910-796-8009 ext. 6. For information about sponsorship opportunities, contact Taylor at 910-796-7900 or email Laurie.Taylor@lcfh.org.
