The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences at Whiteville and the Columbus County Arts Council have partnered to bring you “Movie on Madison: Summer Cinema Series.” This month’ film, Warner Bros’ “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” will be shown August 11 at dusk. A spin-off from the Harry Potter series jumps back in time to explore the wizarding world of 1929 New York, which is being threatened by both mystical acts of destruction and a group of extremist No-Majs (those unable to use magic). Eccentric magizoologist and author Newt Scamander (Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne) arrives in the city as part of a global study of fantastic beasts, but he gets caught up in this conflict when some of the magical creatures in his care are accidentally released.
Bring a blanket or chair. Museum lawn opens at 7:30 p.m., movie starts at dusk. This free, 133-minute film is rated PG-13. This is a family-friendly event: no pets, coolers, alcohol or smoking permitted. Refreshments will be available for purchase.
